Announcements and Important Events
I hope this communication finds you and your family well. I am writing to let you know we are thinking of you and miss you terribly. I don’t know what to say or what words could make you feel better. The closing of schools for the remainder of the school year has unfortunately brought our spring season to an end. I know that your coaches and I both wish that we could help ease your frustrations.
I also know this - you are Huskies. Huskies know how to stare in the face of adversity and not blink. You are Fortune Strong. Many of you understand what that means in relation to Coach Adam Fortune but for those who may not, let me provide a background. Dealing with the loss of a beloved coach at the beginning of the 2014 school year and fall sports season, Tuscarora student-athletes faced the oncoming school year with a dedication to not back down. The phrase Fortune Strong was created to empower not only athletics but our school to press on and continue to excel in all phases of what it means to be a Husky. Now we are being challenged with the task of again proving what it means to be Fortune Strong. The time you have lost on the field can never be regained. But the lessons learned during this time can also never be lost. I understand that everyday hurts. That doesn’t make it any better, but we are here for you. As coaches, as administrators, as mentors, and as Huskies!
You have every right to feel this way, as do your teammates. It is completely natural and healthy. Many of you have spent countless hours investing….in the gym, in the classroom, in the weight room, in each other and in yourself. Some of you were chasing championships, some a starting position, and some just to make the team. These journeys are valuable and equally meaningful. Each of you has a different story and the right to experience what you sacrificed for.
Sport teaches you how to rise, then fall and then rise again. It teaches you failure, joy, glory, resilience, compassion, empathy and peace. This moment will offer the same lessons, if you let it. What you do with that will help shape how we move forward from this challenge. To that end, I have no doubt you will lead us forward embodying Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence.
Finally, a special word to our seniors. You have been dealt the worst hand of all. We know these times have changed your everyday life. Always know that Tuscarora is proud of you and proud of the values you represent. My hope every day is that this will pass as soon as possible. However, regardless of what the future holds, as your Athletic Director, I am proud of all of you and want you to know that you are loved and missed.
Be well Husky Nation
